Manchester Synagogue Attack: One Victim Was Likely Shot by Officers

In a devastating turn of events, one of the individuals killed during the Manchester synagogue attack appears to have been fatally wounded by law enforcement personnel.

Official Statement Confirms Gunshot Wound

The chief constable of Greater Manchester Police stated that the Home Office pathologist has provisionally determined the victim died of a bullet injury.

“We sought guidance overnight from forensic specialists before full postmortem examinations set to occur later today. The Home Office pathologist indicated that preliminary findings show one of the deceased victims likely sustained a injury consistent with a firearm wound.”

Attacker Information

The assailant, Jihad al-Shamie, did not have a firearm, and all discharged rounds came from the police officers at the scene.

Authorities think the deceased was among those behind the synagogue door seeking to prevent the assailant from gaining entry.

Outcome of Intervention

“It follows therefore pending additional analysis, this injury was unfortunately incurred as a unintended and heartbreaking result of the necessary rapid response taken by our personnel to halt this brutal assault.”

Names Released

Both individuals killed in the attack at Heaton Park synagogue located in Manchester on Thursday were identified as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.

The men were killed when a vehicle was employed to ram into the property of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, before the attacker targeted attendees in a brief violent spree that concluded after armed officers shot at him twice, ending his life at the door of the temple.

Further Harm

Three others were seriously injured in the attack on Yom Kippur, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish year.

The chief constable added, “We have also been advised that one of the three victims currently receiving treatment has also suffered a gunshot wound, which is fortunately non-fatal. Officials think both victims were close together behind the synagogue door, as worshippers acted bravely to stop the assailant from gaining entry.”

Community Support

“Our thoughts and prayers are directed toward the affected relatives, and broader public, touched by this incident across Greater Manchester and beyond. Specialist officers are offering aid and care for everyone involved, including the courageous emergency teams.”

Police named the attacker as Shamie, 35, a UK national of Syrian origin.

Local law enforcement said that three other people – two male suspects and a woman in her 60s – had been arrested “for alleged commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism”.
