Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former trainer his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
